What is a visit to Clydesdale like for residents from Yvetôt or Hemmingen
This is our turn to “repay” the hospitality we have enjoyed in France & Germany
A programme of visits and activities is drawn up – a mixture of local and further afield – and practical arrangements are made. One of the objectives of twinning is to promote our region & our country to others
We usually enjoy the support of the Provost and some of our local councillors, MPs and MSPs who meet our visitors and welcome them to the area
We host visitors in our own homes – often, but not always, those we have stayed with when abroad. It is great to return the compliment of being hosted by having someone stay
We appreciate that not everyone can host. Those in this position make other contributions – by organizing specific events, accompanying visits, being an additional driver etc.
Our guests do not pay for transport or entrance fees (these are paid for by CITA) but normally buy their own lunches, coffees etc.
A number of CITA members accompany our guests on visits. Members pay for their own entrance fees, lunches, coffees etc. but not usually for transport if it is by pre-booked bus
There is normally some free time in the programme to enable hosts to be flexible with their guests. There is no obligation to be involved in absolutely every organised activity
Often several CITA members get together with their guests and go to a restaurant, theatre, concert etc.
We usually organise a farewell evening which everyone attends and CITA members each bring a contribution for the buffet. Our guests are always very impressed by this as it is not something which is usually done in their countries
All talents – singing, dancing, poetry, drama etc. – are welcome at these evenings. One of our young people has a very vivid memory of singing with the mayor of Yvetot!
