What is CITA?
- CITA, Clydesdale International Twinning Association, is a group of volunteers who, with the support of South Lanarkshire Council, work to maintain links with our twin regions – Yvetôt in Normandy in northern France and Hemmingen, in the Lower Saxony region of Germany
What twinning means
- Throughout Scotland and the rest of Europe, and indeed the world, many towns and areas are “twinned” with each other
- This means that they have signed formal charters to develop partnerships and encourage professional, social, cultural and sporting links
- The original charters for the Clydesdale – Yvetôt – Hemmingen twinning partnerships were signed in the names of the respective local communities and are now the basis of the work of CITA with the support of South Lanarkshire Council
- Since 1975, hundreds of people from Clydesdale have participated in meetings, visits, concerts, sporting competitions etc. in France and Germany
- In return Clydesdale has welcomed bands, sports clubs, groups of visitors and young people from both Yvetôt and Hemmingen to enjoy what Clydesdale and Scotland have to offer
How CITA is financed
- Members pay a small annual membership fee
- We run various fundraising activities every year – a Spring quiz, an Autumn tombola, Book & Bake sale as well as quizzes, raffles etc.
- Members support all of these events with their time, talent and contributions
- Where possible we apply for grants from South Lanarkshire Council and the European Union
- We are sometimes sponsored by local firms
- We keep costs down by home hosting and catering for events ourselves
- Our friends in France and Germany organise similar events and also enjoy significant financial support from their local councils
